Episode 27: Book Launch Phases
Today on the show Jodi breaks down the three phases of a book launch: pre-launch, launch, and post-launch. Author-entrepreneurs should remember that book marketing is a marathon, not a sprint.
The pre-launch phase is for setting the foundation for later marketing activities. During this phase, several months before your book is released, your efforts should include things like:
Making social media connections (for engagement).
Sharing content (your book cover or a sample chapter) to build excitement.
Building your email list.
Recruiting launch ambassadors.
The launch phase is for your book release. During this phase, which encompasses your launch day and the immediate days/weeks, your efforts should include things like:
Sharing reviews on social media/email newsletter.
Talking up the book anywhere and everywhere — and having your launch ambassadors do the same thing
Celebrating with a virtual or real-life book launch party.
The post-launch phase accounts for your ongoing efforts once the book has been released. You need a plan to keep your book top of mind when your book topic comes up in conversation. You might decide to do one small book-related activity every day. Or you might decide to do something bigger once a quarter (such as a blog tour).
Trial and error comes into play with all launch phases, but particularly post-launch. Every author-entrepreneur and every book are unique and require a custom marketing plan.
